Before becoming a painter, I directed plays for thirty years and taught Acting at Yale University and School of Drama, collaborating in the development of many new American plays. I also led a theater workshop with incarcerated men for six years, directing them in multiple productions at Fishkill Correctional Facility.

In 2010, I decided it was time to make a shift and pursue my other passion, art. I just began painting and taught myself through observation and trial and error.

I have always been a storyteller and approach my visual art by asking “What is the narrative? And how does each element serve the story?” I try to leave room for the spectator to enter into the story, assign meaning and personal relevance, and arrive at their own interpretation.

After calling New York City home for most of the last 40 years, I now live and paint full-time in the Hudson Valley and am always happy to welcome visitors to my studio.
